The power of propolis
Propolis is the great secret of the bees. But what exactly is it?
One of our ingredients is: propolis. Read here why we use this beautiful product.
Propolis is a wonderful, natural remedy that is already widely used in some countries. It is also becoming increasingly popular in the Netherlands and that is not surprising. They already knew about the special effect of this miracle drug in Greek antiquity.
The word 'propolis' therefore comes from Greek. It is a combination of the words 'pro' and 'polis'. Pro means 'for the benefit of' or 'for the protection of'. Polis means 'fortress' or 'fortress'. So what propolis means for the bee population, people already knew well around the beginning of our era: a substance that served to protect the home and its inhabitants.
Effect of propolis:
In addition to a positive effect against bacteria, viruses and fungi, propolis stimulates the body's immune system, inhibits inflammatory reactions and promotes wound healing. Propolis also has an analgesic and antispasmodic effect, and a beneficial effect on blood vessel walls.
We can attribute these effects to propolis:
- Anti-bacterial effect, because it kills bacteria or inhibits their growth.
- Anti-viral effect by inhibiting growth of viruses.
- Inhibits the growth of fungi.
- It strengthens the effect of (regular) antibiotics.
- Activates the defense system.
- Stimulates the immune system.
-
Promotes tissue and cell growth.
- Strengthens blood vessels.
- Promotes the storage of glycosides (energy-rich substances in the muscles, especially the heart muscle)
- Improves the functioning of the glands, including the pancreas (production of insulin)
Composition of propolis
Propolis is a complex mixture of more than 300 natural substances. Propolis is mainly composed of substances of vegetable origin.
- Essential oils, these aromatic compounds have a good effect against bacteria and fungi.
- Flavonoids, these pigment substances are a natural active antibiotic against bacteria, viruses and fungi. Some have an antispasmodic effect, promote bile flow or are analgesic. inhibiting inflammatory reactions, stimulating the formation of antibodies and promoting growth. Due to a favorable effect on the blood vessels and red blood cells, they counteract the development of arterial calcification and thrombosis.
- Minerals and Vitamins
